2015 Lexus RC Preview

2015 Lexus RC Preview

Jan. 30, 2015

Pros: Lexus claims the RC was built for enthusiasts and drivers. With sculpted, aggressive body-lines, the RC is somewhat removed from the reserved look of most of the models in Lexus’ lineup.

Cons: This is the first year of production for the Lexus RC as it is a brand new model, which usually entails kinks that need to be worked out.

2015 Lexus RC Price and Fuel Economy: There are currently two Lexus RC models available, a sportier RWD and an AWD.

2015 Lexus RC 350 (RWD) $57,050
2015 Lexus RC 350 AWD $54,000

Fuel ratings are similar for both models, however, the RWD version does slightly better with 12.3L/100km in the city and 8.5L/100km on the highway. Conversely, the AWD model garners 12.6L/100km in the city and 9.1L/100km on the highway, according to Lexus.

Powertrain: Regardless of RWD or AWD, your 2015 Lexus RC comes equipped with one engine only; a 307-horsepower, 3.5L 6-cylinder (complete with an Engine Sound Generator). Two transmissions are offered, one for each model specifically. The RWD Lexus RC is equipped with an 8-speed automatic with Sport Direct Shift Control, while the AWD version features a 6-speed automatic. Both feature paddle shifters, sport mode, and sequential shift mode.

Changes and Improvements: Every little bit about the Lexus RC is new (kind of) since this is its first year of existence. Based on the LF-CC concept, the RC is essentially a coupe version of the IS. It features a standard Lexus interior and Lexus features, so nothing really new there. However, the coupe design is new.

Cargo Capacity: Both models feature seating for four, and a trunk that will swallow up approximately 295L of stuff.

Safety: The 2015 Lexus RC is equipped with all manner of standard safety equipment and airbags, as well as land change assist, blind spot monitor, and rear cross traffic alert.
